The Resilience Enhancement for Adapting Sustainable Livelihoods (REAL) project aims to enhance food security and resilience for 4,200 refugees and 1,800 host community members in Kyaka and Rwamwanja settlements in Western Uganda by 2026. Building on a successful pilot intervention, the project integrates climate-smart agricultural practices, value chain development, and Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. Key outcomes include improved agricultural production, mindset and behavior change towards farming as a primary income source, financial inclusion through VSLAs, increased gender equality, and the dissemination of learnings for scalability. The project’s participatory approach ensures sustainability by involving local stakeholders, fostering resource sharing, and building long-term self-reliance, particularly for women, while enhancing resilience against climate-induced stresses.
