From 29 June to 3 July, ADRA Uganda conducted a GIS and LogAlto training workshop in Uganda aimed at strengthening staff capacity in project planning, management, monitoring, and decision-making.
The training brought together Project Managers, Project Coordinators, MEAL staff, and Support teams from different project locations across Uganda. The workshop provided both technical learning and an opportunity for cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Building capacity for project management, monitoring and evaluation (MEAL)
The workshop focused on improving the use of digital tools for project management and monitoring and evaluation (MEAL). Participants engaged in practical exercises designed to strengthen their ability to use data for better decision-making and more effective project implementation.
Through LogAlto training sessions, participants learned how to:
- create and set up a new project in LogAlto
- design project structures and key components
- develop and configure data collection forms
- improve data management for monitoring and reporting
These exercises strengthened understanding of how LogAlto supports efficient project management, reporting, and accountability in development and humanitarian programmes.

GIS training for risk analysis and agricultural suitability mapping
The GIS component of the workshop focused on strengthening spatial analysis skills for better planning and decision-making.
Participants carried out practical GIS exercises including:
- flood risk analysis, identifying flood-prone areas and exposure risks
- developing an agricultural suitability model, assessing areas suitable for agricultural interventions
- analysing spatial data to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities across project locations
These GIS training activities demonstrated how spatial data can be used to support evidence-based decision-making, particularly in climate-sensitive and vulnerable communities.

Strengthening collaboration across teams in Uganda
Beyond technical skills, the workshop also played an important role in strengthening collaboration among staff working in different regions of Uganda.
As many teams work in field locations and rarely meet in person, the workshop provided a valuable platform for:
- team interaction and knowledge sharing
- aligning approaches to project management and MEAL systems
- strengthening coordination across projects and departments
This contributed to improved teamwork and a shared understanding of how digital tools can enhance programme delivery.

Conclusion: improving project impact through digital tools
ADRA Uganda remains committed to strengthening staff capacity in GIS, LogAlto, project management, and MEAL systems to improve the quality, efficiency, and impact of its programmes.
The skills gained during this GIS and LogAlto training workshop in Uganda will support better project planning, monitoring, reporting, and data-driven decision-making, ultimately contributing to more effective humanitarian and development interventions.
We appreciate the active participation of all staff who attended and look forward to seeing these tools applied in ongoing and future projects.
