FOUR

FOUR (Farming Opportunities for Refugees in Uganda)

In the heart of Uganda, where agriculture forms the backbone of rural livelihoods, the FOUR Project stands as a beacon of hope and transformation. Supported by ADRA Slovakia, this comprehensive initiative is revolutionizing how farmers approach agriculture, nutrition, and sustainable development in communities including Kyaka II.

The FOUR Project implements comprehensive interventions across three key areas. In livestock production, the initiative introduces and breeds high-yield dairy goat varieties such as Saanen and Toggenburg at a dedicated project farm, then distributes these improved breeds to vulnerable households alongside training in animal husbandry, disease management, and fodder production. The project establishes goat milk collection points and explores local processing opportunities for value addition.

The nutrition component focuses on directly distributing nutritious goat milk to vulnerable groups, particularly expectant mothers and severely malnourished children, to combat malnutrition. This is complemented by nutrition education programs that teach households about dietary diversity and the health benefits of milk consumption.

For sustainable agriculture, the project provides broader training on integrated farming systems that link crop production with livestock management, including practical applications such as utilizing goat manure for soil fertility enhancement.

These interventions are expected to generate significant impact through increased milk availability and consumption for improved nutrition, diversified income opportunities through goat rearing, enhanced knowledge of sustainable livestock management practices, and improved food security through integrated farming approaches that create more resilient agricultural systems for participating communities.
