A Fundraising Run To Promote Health and Dignity Of A Girl Child In Agago District
Join us for a transformative fundraising run that goes beyond the finish line. The ADRA RUN 2026 is a movement to support out-of-school girls in Agago District, Northern Uganda. The goal is to help these girls re-enroll in school and complete their secondary education. When girls finish school, it restores dignity, agency, and future opportunities that are often lost due to early marriage, teenage pregnancy, stigma, and poverty.
Northern Uganda faces a persistent crisis of teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and high school dropout rates, which continues to undermine girls’ education outcomes and long-term human capital development.
According to UNICEF (2024):
- Approximately 25% of girls aged 15–19 in Uganda have begun childbearing
- Nearly 1 in 4 girls are married before the age of 18, a key driver of permanent school dropout
In Agago District, the situation is more difficult:
- Up to 28% of registered pregnancies are among adolescents, significantly higher than the national average of 24% (Daily Monitor, 2024)
- 1 in 4 girls drops out of school before completing primary education – driven by poverty, early marriage, and social pressure
- The transition from primary to secondary education remains the weakest retention point for girls
Our Goal
We’re raising UGX 200,000,000 to support 1,100 girls through:
- 100 out-of-school girls re-enrolled and retained in secondary education, through school fees, scholastic materials, and retention support
- 1,000 menstrual health kits distributed, addressing a key but often overlooked driver of absenteeism and dropout
The focus is not only on access, but also on retention and completion of education, aligned with Uganda’s NDP IV Human Capital Development Agenda.
