Job Summary: The Men Engagement Office task is to engage men as allies and supporters of women’s rights and women’s empowerment. By educating men and influencing their attitudes and behaviours, men can play a positive role in advocating for women’s rights, combatting violence against women, and challenging patriarchal structures and social norms that are harmful to women.

The Men Engagement Officer will oversee the design, planning, implementation and delivery of an integrated training program targeting male stakeholders at various levels to support and reinforce positive outcomes for women. The Men Engagement  Officer will mobilize male family members and other male religious leaders and community leaders, to engage in discussion forums and formal training sessions around critical issues that impact the rights and empowerment of women.

Some of the Roles of the Men Engagement Officer are as follows:

  • Design a culturally appropriate strategy for men’s engagement programming in the project
  • Develop a training curriculum for each target audience/training method that addresses issues of women’s rights, violence against women, unequal power dynamics, challenging patriarchal structures and social norms that are harmful to women, and promoting the economic empowerment of women
  • Establish a training schedule and weekly lesson plan; ensure that all required logistics are in place (training facilities, supplies and equipment, transport, etc.), in accordance with the approved plan and budget
  • Mobilize and recruit male stakeholders at various levels to participate in community dialogues, discussion forums, and formal training sessions, as applicable
  • Coordinate advocacy campaigns to sensitive men on the harmful effects of violence against women and other practices that discriminate against women
  • Deliver training directly, and/or supervise contracted trainers
  • Ensure that accurate records are kept and produce regular reports to document progress, challenges, lessons learned and achievements
  • In collaboration with the M&E Manager, establish a project log frame and timetable with clear objectives and deliverables, including clear targets and indicators to measure change
  • Conduct focus group discussions, key informant interviews, post-training follow up, pre-and post-tests, and other data collection activities as needed
  • Assist in any field research or evaluation of Men Engagement activities as requested by the supervisor
  • Provide inputs to the development of new proposals for Men Engagement work
  • Provide technical support to local partners engaged in Men Engagement programming, as requested

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or a related discipline
  • At least three (3) years of relevant work experience, preferably with an NGO
  • Strong commitment to women’s rights and women’s empowerment and belief in the importance of engaging men in the process
  • Demonstrated skills in designing and delivering training and/or adult education
  • Good administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Networking and collaboration skills
  • Excellent program implementation and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability in Data Collection, Data Management and Analysis
  • Computer skills, especially statistical analysis
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Capacity building, training, and coaching skills
  • Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the internet
  • Knowledge of project cycle and related tools and methodologies
  • Must be fluent in written and oral English
  • Basic familiarity with the Luo language will be an added advantage
  • Basic cultural knowledge of Acholiland, including the Districts of Agago, Pader, Kitgum, and Lamwo. Working experience with the Luo people will be an added advantage
