Batwa ALIVE

Batwa Action on Livelihoods and Visibility Enhancement (Batwa ALIVE) Project is funded by the City of Vienna through ADRA Austria.

The project main goal is to improve Batwa peoples’ livelihoods and identity in Kisoro District, South Western Uganda.

The expected results include:
• To improve household livelihoods and food security among Batwa households
• To preserve Batwa culture and secure their social identity
• To enhance reading, writing and entrepreneurial skills Some of the key actions in this project are as indicated below:
• Sensitize 90 Batwa households on nutrition and balanced diet
• 6 Sheep Banks community-based organisation (CBOs) identified and trained in sheep raring as a business
• 78 female sheep and 6 male sheep procured and distributed to the 6 sheep banks
• Targeted CBO members trained and supported to establish a living museum
• Link targeted Batwa CBO members to UWA and to government to support Batwa in establishing a museum
• Establish a resource hall for the Batwas
