Job Location: Kyaka II, Uganda (Kyaka II Refugee Settlement and other areas when requested)
Duration: December 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019
Position Summary: The IT Technician maintains a record of patient care by compiling, reviewing, and filing documentation of a patient’s condition, treatment, and health outcome. Also has a strong understanding of desktop operating systems, routinely thinks outside the box to solve problems quickly and understands what impeccable customer service is all about. The IT Technician will be responsible for ensuring each department achieves key metrics, repairing computers and performing technical and system diagnostics as required.
Job description:
The IT Technician must be well-versed in computer systems and network function. Needs to install, maintain and repair computers and networks, able to work diligently and accurately, possessing a great problem-solving ability in order to fix issues and ensure functionality. The main goal is to maintain a high-quality network and computer system alongside with accurate statistics from the operation at the CEMS and the smooth work environment to the health professionals using the system.
These are the main responsibilities and duties to be carried out on a daily or weekly basis:
Setting up hardware and installing and configure software and drivers
Maintaining and repairing technological equipment (e.g. routers) or peripheral devices
Installing well-functioning LAN/WAN and other networks and manage components (servers, IPs etc.)
Provide technical assistance and resolution as necessary
Set up new computer systems and perform routine maintenance
Ensure that Internet security software is updated and running properly
Maintain computer equipment and software to ensure secure and efficient operations
Repair computer hardware and servers as required
Test and implement new software programs for the CEMS
Maintains medical records operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
Initiates medical record by searching master patient index; identifying existing patient records, interacting with registration areas and physicians’ offices for information verification, processing or creating the record folder
Ensures medical record availability by routing records to admissions and emergency departments, physicians, and other authorized hospital staff
Completes medical record by reviewing information, notifying health care providers of record deficiencies; tracking outstanding records
Resolves medical record discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
Maintains historical reference by abstracting and coding clinical data, such as diseases, operations, procedures, and therapies, using standard classification systems, filing documents
Prepares statistical reports by collecting and summarizing medical care and census information, such as types of diseases treated, surgery performed, and use of hospital beds
Provides medical record information by answering questions and requests of patients, hospital staff or any other agency
Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential
Collects data for report propose when requested
Maintains the stability and reputation of the hospital by complying with legal requirements
Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements:
Degree in Computer Science or related field
Strong understanding of Microsoft and Linux
Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends and/or holidays when needed
Previous experience in humanitarian work
Fluent in English, Swahili and French
Ability to communicate and interact well with people from different educational, linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds
Able to read and understand technical manuals
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects effectively
